An Open Letter to Former President Goodluck Jonathan

His Excellency,

There is an African adage that says an elder cannot be present in the community while the necks of children remain bent. You are a father to the Ijaw Nation, a respected global citizen, and a foremost nationalist whose voice carries significant weight across this country.

A philosopher once noted that two things reveal the true character of a man ; power and money. Your Excellency, Tompolo now symbolizes these dark traits. 

He has transformed into an oppressor, a stark departure from the man you once worked to save from grave political danger when it was believed he was being targeted.

Before proceeding, I must sincerely thank you for turning down his selfish request to maintain monolithic control over the pipeline surveillance contract, and for showing him and his greedy delegation from Oporoza out of your residence.

Tompolo now sees himself as a demigod who cannot be challenged. Anyone who speaks out against him anywhere in the region risks being targeted by his notorious operatives, including individuals known as Kari, Tare, Super, and Bodamas. 

Reports indicate that these operatives kidnap dissenters and take them to Oporoza, where Ekomieyefa Uduboh (KFT), who allegedly heads his torture chamber, subjects them to severe beatings until they lose consciousness.

Your Excellency, I am conveying what I have witnessed firsthand, actions that are deeply repulsive and completely contradict the values of our movement. As a human rights activist, I never supported the Niger Delta struggle for it to produce a monster who oppresses his own people.

The sole leverage enabling these severe abuses appears to be his monolithic control over the pipeline surveillance contract across several states.

On January 25, 2026, one of his operatives, Bodamas Kemepadei, allegedly abducted Patrick Peresuodei to his residence in Yenagoa and beat him to death.

Demonstrating a alarming level of callousness, Tompolo reportedly whisked Bodamas away to his Oporoza base and sent his younger brother, Tare, with 50 million naira to bribe the victim's impoverished parents into silence, an offer they courageously rejected. 

Furthermore, victims like Charles and Balamene have reportedly remained in his private detention since 2024 after being abducted in Bayelsa by Bodamas.

Your Excellency, please ask President Bola Tinubu whether the operation of a private prison is part of the security contract the Federal Government signed with Tompolo.

While we are relieved that Mr. President has not yet renewed the contract, the overwhelming consensus across the region is that the contract must be decentralized.

Your administration originally introduced the concept of the pipeline protection contract. Under your leadership, a policy of decentralization was adopted, and none of these widespread human rights violations occurred.

As an illustrious son of the Ijaw Nation, it is high time you intervene in this urgent matter and add your influential voice, knowing how highly Mr. President regards you.

Tompolo's actions are causing immense suffering, abduction, and torture among your people.
